Props, Costumes and Location

Props, Costumes and Location

For props, based on the target audience of late teenage males I had the setting of the shots contain props that reflect this such as bass guitars, drum kits and empty bottles. I believe that this represents one of the stereotypes of the target audience as being loud and reckless, adding to the magazines overall feel and effect.

As far as costumes go I didn't want to over do it, rather make my models clothing as ordinary, casual and laid back as possible, so hoodies, jeans etc. however to add quirk and make the magazine stand out more I decided to go for a Russian theme, and gave my model an ushanka to wear. I felt that this added an odd, random and off the wall property to my magazine, adding further appeal to the target audience.

The location I used was an uncovered area of wall in the garage, and an overgrown area in a back garden, portraying a careless attitude towards what is around my model but with all due intention. In the garage setting I made sure the light was on the model rather than the setting, focusing the viewers direction towards him and not the setting to keep it as subliminal as possible.
